The route

So that's where it is!

The route covers 180 miles of walking round the magnificent South West Welsh coast. It really is no exaggeration to call it magnificent either, because the views are stunning the whole way.

For more information on the area have a look at the Pembrokeshire coast path section on http://www.pembrokeshirecoast.org.uk

Organisation

We’ll probably use a company to organise our trek, as they sort out the route, book us into nice accomodation each night, but most importantly  they arrange for our luggage to be transferred from place to place each day, which makes life very easy.  That’s important for me, because I’m way past my backpacking days!!!  So all we’d need to carry with us each day is a smallish backpack for water, a snack lunch, waterproofs, camera & other essentials.

This is one good company I know of who organise these trips, so have a look at their website to get a better feel for what they offer…www.contours.co.uk.

At current prices they would charge around 1,000 pounds each, which isn’t bad for a 2-3 week holiday.  We’d need to pay food on top of that.  Anyway, I’ll explore options nearer the time.

Accomodation

Often the the places where we’ll be staying at night will have sensational views.  Here for example is the recently refurbished & rather gorgeous Pwll Deri youth hostel along our route.  Caroline & I checked out this place last summer, & it’s the nicest Youth Hostel I’ve seen.  It’s also one of the few places to stay on that particular stretch of the path, as it’s fairly remote, so we’d probably end up staying there for one night.

Fab location - perfect for sundowners

For the rest of the time, accomodation is likely to be in lovely friendly Welsh Bed & Breakfast places along the route, where we can have a slap up breakfast before we start walking each day!.

Sometimes we’ll be walking in pretty remote areas, & at other times we’ll end up in small towns, so there’ll be plenty of variety along the way!

All sounds great to me!

All for now,

Tricia x
